Outstanding academic achievements

Dr. Andr é Ivanov is an internationally renowned scholar in the fields of electrical engineering and computer science. He obtained his PhD from McGill University in 1989 and subsequently joined UBC, serving as the head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering from 2008 to 2018. Under his leadership, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UBC has redesigned its curriculum to better meet the needs of students and the industry. The new curriculum emphasizes maximizing students' learning outcomes through practical activities and actively introducing interactive projects with industry and community partners.

Dr. Ivanov's research covers multiple key areas such as the design, verification, testing, and reliability of VLSI circuits. He has published over 250 international conference and journal papers and holds multiple US patents. His work not only promotes technological progress in academia, but also provides important support for practical applications in the semiconductor industry. In 2001, he co founded Vector 12, a semiconductor intellectual property company, to further translate research findings into practical products.

Contributions to IEEE and the academic community

Dr. Ivanov has played an important role in multiple organizations of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). He served as the Chair of the Test Technology Committee (TTTC) of the IEEE Computer Society from 2004 to 2007, and has also served as the Technical Program Chair and General Chair of the VLSI Testing Symposium (VTS) multiple times. In addition, he has also served in IEEE Transactions on CAD, IEEE Design and Test of Computers Magazine, and Journal of Electronic Test: Associate Editor of top journals such as Theory and Applications (JETTA), and served as Editor in Chief of IEEE Design and Test from 2003 to 2017.

His outstanding contributions earned him the titles of IEEE Fellow, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, and Golden Core Member of the IEEE Computer Society.
