Thomas Villmann’s research spans major areas of machine learning and computational intelligence, including:
Prototype-based vector quantization and learning vector quantization (LVQ)
Self-organizing maps (SOM) and neural maps
Computational intelligence and pattern recognition
Machine learning and relevance learning methods
High-dimensional data analysis, non-standard metrics & classification learning

400+ Publications in international journals, conferences, and edited volumes (including extensive work on LVQ and neural learning methods).
Areas of contributions include prototype learning, unsupervised and supervised vector quantization, adaptive learning, and interpretability in machine learning.
