Lining Sun

Professor Lining Sun is a distinguished scholar in robotics, intelligent manufacturing, and mechatronic engineering. He currently serves as Professor and Dean of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Soochow University, and is also a Ph.D. supervisor.

Professor Sun is recognized as a leading expert in advanced robotics and micro/nano-manipulation systems. His research focuses on robotics and intelligent systems, micro/nano manufacturing, mechatronic equipment, and advanced control technologies.

He is a recipient of several prestigious national honors, including:

  • Distinguished Professor of the Yangtze River Scholars Program

  • National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars

  • National “Ten Thousand Talents Program” Leading Scientist in Technological Innovation

Professor Sun has played a significant role in China’s national science and technology programs, serving as a key expert in multiple major initiatives such as the National 863 Program (High-Tech R&D Program) and national key projects in advanced manufacturing and MEMS technologies.

He has led or participated in over 20 major national research projects, including projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and national key R&D programs. His academic output includes:

  • Over 400 scientific publications

  • More than 40 authorized invention patents

  • Multiple national and ministerial-level awards, including National Science and Technology Progress Awards and Technological Invention Awards

In addition to his academic achievements, Professor Sun actively contributes to the international and national scientific community. He holds leadership roles in several professional societies, including:

  • Vice Chairman, China Mechatronics Technology Application Association

  • Executive member, Chinese Society of Micro-Nano Technology

  • Deputy Director, Robotics Committee of the Chinese Association of Automation

He is also a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Engineering and has extensive experience in promoting collaboration between academia, industry, and government in the field of intelligent manufacturing and robotics.
