Yves Demazeau

Director of Research at Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and Visiting Professor at University of Southern Denmark (SDU), Yves Demazeau is EurAI Fellow and Doctor Honoris Causa of SDU. He is one of the founders of the field of Multi-Agent Systems (MAS), one of the ten themes of Artificial Intelligence (AI), in which he has been practicing for 44 years. It is recognized there for his original applications in many fields: autonomous robotics, bio-inspired robotics, computer vision, energy management, financial modeling, geographic information, interactive games, personal assistance, support for artistic creation, telecommunications, natural language processing, web intelligence. His current theoretical research activities in AI focus on: ethical design, user-centration. His current areas of application are: cognitive war, website adaptation. Some research is carried out in collaboration within LIG, others with SDU (DK-Odense), UM1 (MA-Oujda), and UNICEN (AR-Tandil). He has taught MAS in various places in Europe, South America, and North Africa. He orchestrated the series of PAAMS conferences from 2009 to 2020. He was President of the French Association for Artificial Intelligence (AFIA) from 2011 to 2020 and orchestrated the French Artificial Intelligence Platforms (PFIA) from 2013 to 2021. He is consultant for A2I Systems (DK-Odense) since 2012.

Yves Demazeau received his PhD in Computer Science at Grenoble National Polytechnic Institute in 1986. He is EurAI Fellow and Doctor Honoris Causa at Southern Denmark University. Director of Research at CNRS and Invited Professor at SDU, he has been Visiting Professor at VUB Brussels in 1989, SDU Odense in 1994, UT Sydney in 2014, NITech Nagoya in 2018. He has edited 43 books or proceedings, (co-)authored 213 papers and been invited for 63 lectures, 22 tutorials, and 209 seminars. He (co-)advised 31 PhD and 59 MSc theses.

 

Yves Demazeau is one of the co-founders of the Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) area, one of the ten topics of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He has been active in this area for 44 years. He is well known for the large-scale and original applications he has developed in various domains: autonomous robotics, bio-inspired robotics, computer vision, energy management, financial modelling, geographical information, interactive games, natural language processing, personal assistance, support for artistic creation, telecommunications, and web intelligence.

 

During these last twenty-three years, Yves Demazeau has expanded his research activities towards more general Artificial Intelligence issues. H His current theoretical research activities in AI focus on: ethical design, user-centration. His current areas of application are: cognitive war, website adaptation. Yves Demazeau has been teaching MAS at academic level in Europe (AGH Krakow, SDU Odense, UCPP Corte, UJF Grenoble, UL Luxembourg, UPD Paris, UPM Madrid), in Southern America (UFC Fortaleza, UFRGS Porto Alegre, UNICEN Tandil) and North Africa (ENSI Tunis, UM1 Oujda) as well as in International Summer Schools such as IBERAMIA and IJCAI. Creator of the MAAMAW, CEEMAS, and ICMAS conferences, he has conducted the PAAMS series from 2009 to 2020 and the BESC series from 2015 to 2017. He has served in 322 conference program committees.

 

Yves Demazeau has served or is serving as editorial board member of several journals (JAAMAS Springer Verlag, MAGS IOS Press) and as Editor-in-Chief of the French AI Journal (RIA Hermes) from 2010 to 2018. He has been President of the French Association for Artificial Intelligence (AFIA) from 2011 to 2020, and has conducted the French AI Event Platform (PFIA) from 2013 to 2021. He has held consulting activities in the past with Thomson-CSF, FRAMENTEC-Cognitech, OECD, Unilog and currently with A2I Systems since 2012.
