MuDer Jeng (S’89–M’92–SM’96–F’07) received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan, in 1983 and 1985, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in computer and systems engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, in 1992.,Since August 1992, he has been with National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU), Keelung, Taiwan, where he is currently a Distinguished Professor of electrical engineering. He was a Visiting Professor/Scientist at the Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (INRIA) in 1999 and 2000, École Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Metz in 2000, and the Unversité de Metz in 2002, all in France. He is a member of the Editorial Board the International Journal of Computer Integrated Manufacturing and the International Journal of Agile Systems and Management, and Modeling and Simulation in Engineering. His current research interests include Petri nets, embedded and automation systems, biomedical electronics, automotive electronics, energy management systems, wireless networking, and RFID. He has more than 170 publications including one book, three book chapters, and 66 journal papers.,Dr. Jeng has been elected twice as a member of the Board of Governors of the the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) Society (2008–2010, 2005–2007), where he is a Cochair of Discrete Event Systems Technical Committee. He was the Vice President for Membership and Student Activities 2006–2007 and the Chapter Coordinator 2004–2005 of the IEEE SMC Society. He was a member of IEEE SMC Fellow Committee in 2007. He was the Founding Chair of Semiconductor Factory Automation Technical Committee and the Chair of Taipei Chapter of the IEEE Robotics and Automation (RA) Society. He is a member of the IEEE RAS Fellow Evaluation Committee in 2010. He is currently an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, And Cybernetics—Part A: Systems and Humans and the IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, And Cybernetics—Part C: Applications and Reviews. He was an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on RA and the IEEE Transactions on Robotics. He was a Guest Editor of seven leading journals, five of which are IEEE transactions or magazine. He was a Program Cochair of the 2006 IEEE International Conference on SMC, and the 2005 IEEE International Conference on Networking, Sensing, and Control. He was a member of the organization and program committees (more than 40 times). He has organized and chaired more than 30 technical sessions for many international conferences. He is a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE SMC Society. He received the Most Active SMC Technical Committee Award in 2008 from the IEEE SMC Society, the Young Research Award in 2006 from NTOU, the Most Active Technical Committee Award in 2005 from IEEE RA Society, and the Franklin V. Taylor Award in 1993 from IEEE SMC Society, and the Research Awards annually during 1994 and 2000 from National Science Council of Taiwan.
