    Shyi-Ming Chen is a Chair Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, Asia University, Taichung, Taiwan. He received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, in June 1991. From June 2018 to July 2024, he was a Chair Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei, Taiwan. From August 2012 to May 2018, he was a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei, Taiwan. From August 2011 to July 2012, he was the Vice President of the National Taichung University of Education, Taichung, Taiwan. From August 2010 to July 2011, he was a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei, Taiwan. From August 2007 to July 2010, he was the Dean of the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Jinwen University of Science and Technology, New Taipei City, Taiwan. From August 2001 to July 2007, he was a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei, Taiwan. From August 1998 to July 2001, he was a Professor in the Department of Electronics Engineering, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei, Taiwan. From August 1996 to July 1998, he was a Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science, National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan. From August 1991 to July 1996, he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science, National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan. He was the President of the Taiwanese Association for Consumer Electronics (TACE) from December 2008 to December 2012 and from December 2014 to December 2016. He was the President of the Taiwanese Association for Consumer Electronics (TACE) from December 2008 to December 2012 and from December 2014 to December 2016. He was the President of the Taiwanese Association for Artificial Intelligence (TAAI) from January 2005 to January 2009. He has published more than 600 papers in referred journals, conference proceedings and book chapters. His research interests include Fuzzy Systems, Intelligent Systems, Fuzzy Decision Making, Computational Intelligence, Knowledge-Based Systems, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Big Data Analysis, Genetic Algorithms, and Particle Swam Optimization Techniques.

Professor Chen is an IEEE Fellow, an IET Fellow, an IFSA Fellow, an AAIA Fellow, an IETI Distinguished Fellow, a Fellow of the Pakistan Academy of Engineering (PAE), and a Member of the National Academy of Artificial Intelligence (NAAI). He was a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) Society from 2012 to 2015. He has received numerous honors and awards, including the 1994 Outstanding Paper Award of the Journal of Information and Education, the 1995 Outstanding Paper Award of the Computer Society of the Republic of China, the 1997 Outstanding Youth Electrical Engineer Award granted by the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering (CIEE), Republic of China, the Best Paper Award of the 1999 National Computer Symposium, Republic of China, the 1999 Outstanding Paper Award of the Computer Society of the Republic of China, the 2001 Distinguished Talented Person Award, Republic of China, for Distinguished Contributions in Information Technologies, the 2002 Distinguished Electrical Engineering Professor Award granted by the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering (CIEE), Republic of China, the 2003 Outstanding Paper Award of the Technological and Vocational Education Society, Republic of China, the 2005 Distinguished Research Award of the National Science and Technology Council, Republic of China, the 2007 ~ 2009 Distinguished Research Award of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, the Outstanding Paper Award of the 2006 11th Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Applications, the Best Paper Award of the 2007 20th International Conference on Industrial, Engineering and Other Applications of Applied Intelligent Systems (IEA/AIE 2007), the 2008 Distinguished Engineering Professor Award granted by the Chinese Institute of Engineers (CIE), Republic of China, the Best Paper Award of the 2009 International Conference on Advanced Information Technologies (AIT 2009), the Best Paper Award of the 2009 Fourth International Conference on Innovative Computing, Information and Control (ICICIC 2009), the Best Paper Award of the 2010 International Conference on Computational Aspects of Social Networks (CASON 2010), the 2010 ~ 2012 Outstanding Research Award of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, the 2013 ~ 2015 Distinguished Research Award of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, the 2013 Distinguished Contributions Award of the Taiwanese Association for Consumer Electronics (TACE), the Best Paper Award of the 2014 27th International Conference on Industrial, Engineering and Other Applications of Applied Intelligent Systems (IEA/AIE 2014), the 2016 ~ 2018 Outstanding Research Award of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, the 2019 Amity Researcher Award, India, for significant contribution in the field of Artificial Intelligence, and the Outstanding Research Award of National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (2022 ~ 2024).

Professor Chen is currently a Chair of the IEEE SMC Society’s Technical Committee on Intelligent Internet Systems. He was the Vice Chair of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, Taipei Chapter, from January 2008 to December 2009, a member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE SMC Society from January 2008 to December 2010, a member of the Board of Directors of the Chinese Fuzzy Systems Association (CFSA) from January 1998 to December 2004, and a member of the Board of Governors of the Taiwan Fuzzy Systems Association (TFSA) from January 2008 to December 2010. He was a 2014 Fellow Evaluation Committee Member of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society.
