NAAI Establishes the Hall of Artificial Intelligence to Define the Global Intellectual Legacy of AI

April 2026

The National Academy of Artificial Intelligence (NAAI) today officially announced the establishment of the NAAI Hall of Artificial Intelligence, a long-term academic initiative aimed at systematically documenting and recognizing individuals whose contributions have fundamentally shaped the development of artificial intelligence worldwide.

The Hall is not designed as an award mechanism, but as a historically grounded recognition framework, based on long-term impact and global academic consensus. It does not accept applications or nominations; instead, individuals are inducted through historical recognition.

NAAI stated that as artificial intelligence enters a transformative phase reshaping human society, there is an increasing need for an enduring intellectual framework that preserves the foundational figures, ideas, and trajectories of the field.

A Three-Tier Structure Defining the Intellectual Lineage of AI

The Hall of Artificial Intelligence is structured into three distinct tiers:

1. Founding Legends of Artificial Intelligence

This highest tier recognizes individuals whose work has had foundational and transformative impact on the field. All recipients of the Turing Award, presented by the Association for Computing Machinery, are automatically inducted into this category.

2. Hall Fellows of Artificial Intelligence

This tier includes scholars who have made significant and sustained contributions across theory, technology, or applications of AI.

3. Rising Intelligence Pioneers

This category highlights emerging researchers demonstrating exceptional potential and breakthrough capabilities in new and evolving areas.

From Awards to Historical Recognition

NAAI emphasized that the Hall is not intended to replace existing award systems, but rather to complement them by providing a long-term historical perspective.

While awards recognize achievements within specific periods, the Hall seeks to define enduring intellectual influence and historical significance.

As stated by NAAI:

“Awards evaluate the present. The Hall defines history.”

Toward a Global Academic Memory Infrastructure

NAAI will continue to develop the Hall through:

  • The release of the inaugural list of “Founding Legends of AI”

  • The construction of a global academic archive and index system

  • Collaborative historical and academic initiatives with international institutions

The Hall of Artificial Intelligence is positioned as a foundational component of NAAI’s long-term vision to build a globally recognized academic memory system for artificial intelligence.
